Boy, 16, stabbed to death was “kindest soul” – as police launch murder probe

The first picture of a teenager stabbed to death has been released as police continue to investigate his alleged murder.

Rayon Pennycook, 16, was found with fatal injuries in Corby, Northamptonshire at around 7pm on Tuesday.

Emergency services raced to the scene but the schoolboy – described as the “kindest soul” – tragically died shortly after.

Three teenagers, aged 17, 17, and 15, have been arrested on suspicion of murder and remain in custody, police said.

Tributes to Rayon flooded in on social media after his identity was revealed on Wednesday.

One friend wrote: “You were the kindest soul anyone could wish to meet. Nobody deserves this.”

Pam Francis said: “Why Lord, please tell me why.

“Please pray for my sister in law Sharon Warmington Pennycook and her family right now.

“I can’t believe this my heart is broken. Why. RIEP Rayon.”

Northamptonshire Police said it was “determined to bring those responsible for his death to justice”.

DCI Joe Banfield added: “This is an exceptionally sad and tragic incident in which a young boy with his whole life ahead of him has died and I want to reassure the public that we are absolutely determined to bring the people involved to justice.

“Arrests were promptly made last night and enquiries are continuing to move at a fast pace however I would still appeal for any witnesses or anyone with information who has not yet come forward, to please do so.

“Whilst we do believe that this was an isolated incident, high-visibility police patrols will be taking place in Corby today to reassure the local community and I would encourage anyone with concerns in the area to approach one of our officers who will be happy to help.”

A force statement said: “Three males aged 17, 17 and 15, were arrested last night [Tuesday] on suspicion of murder in connection with the boy’s death and all three remain in police custody at this time.”
